Billy emailed me with these memories of his own………

Some Billy & Wally competitions---'Hang the man', 'Bet you don't know who this is?',
'On-air gargling', 'Merseyside's best Tarzan yell', 'Take your chick' (you played for chicken portions), 'Radio stripping' (if you got a question wrong you took some clothes off---in the house !!), 'Radio hide and seek' (2 contestants on the air and one had to give clues to where she was hiding at home !!), 'Radio yodelling'.

Arthur Murphy's recipe introduced by Granny Clampett of 'The Beverley Hillbillies'…..
taken from an LP of Granny singing about 'vittles'.

Thanks for those Bill.

Remember these too?

Click here to listen to another of Norman's silly songs.
This one's the Dibber Song, another from Don Wood, who wrote and sang most of Norman's tunes. Remember Norm used to give dibbers away in one of his quizzes and that's why the song came about.
Can you imagine what anyone from outside of the North West is thinking right now,  '…….dibbers……….songs…….they must be mad.'

If you look in the 'More Jingles' page, you can hear 'The Manhattans sing Mark Jones'. This was recorded for Mark by The Manhattans who had hits with 'Hurt' and 'Kiss and Say Goodbye'. He interviewed them in London and they then sang the jingle for him at the end. A couple of weeks later, they sent him this version which they recorded in a studio.

There was a key-coded lock from reception through to the studio complex with a chrome bar around the key-pad so that you couldn't see what number was being punched in. If you'd ever wanted to sneak in to take a look at your favourite
presenters or visiting guests, you might have had a chance to, if you'd realised that the number for entry was simply 1 - 5 - 4 - 8.

Paul Fenelon wrote in to say he remembers Ron Davies with his Traffic and Travel reports for City and that his CB handle was 'Quebec 1' (sadly Ron passed away in 2003). It was Ron who gave radio the term, 'Traffic and Travel'.
Paul also  remembers Mark Jones on a Saturday morning with 'Ashtray of the Week', usually a bad novelty record.
